| Title: | Agriculture and protected areas in the Adriatic area: the challenge of integrating economic development with environmental conservation |
| Priority: | 2. Natural and Cultural Resources and Risk Prevention |
| Measure: | 2.2 - Natural and cultural heritage management and prevention of natural and technological risks |
| Description: | At the first glance, agriculture and protected areas could be deemed in a relative opposition regarding their objectives. However, it since many rural communities are living in protected areas and are strongly connected to the agricultural activities, the integration of agriculture practices in the vision and the management of protected area is a key issue. In practice, many managers are facing difficulties to take into account agricultural activities and to involve farmers in the management and strategic plan of the protected areas.
The project intends to tackle the potential conflicts between protected areas and agriculture: Land use, Water and forest management, biodiversity, agriculture pollution and environmental standards, rural communities’ livelihoods... It aims at identifying positive interactions between agriculture and protected areas and will provide to the protected areas managers relevant tools and methodologies for integrating agriculture in their strategic plans.
