Project Proposal

Title:Cross border pollution biomonitoring network for the Upper Adriatic
Priority:2. Natural and Cultural Resources and Risk Prevention
Measure:2.2 - Natural and cultural heritage management and prevention of natural and technological risks
Description:The project's aim is to obtain preliminary (and relatively cheap) information on cross border pollution throughout the Upper Adriatic (Italy, Slovenia and Croatia) through a pilot biomonitoring network, that is, which uses various organisms as indicators and accumulators of pollutants. The first part of the project will consist in the botanical and zoological research needed for the application of established biomonitoring techniques in territories where they have not previously been used. A second part of the project will focus on the establishment and testing of a biomonitoring network throughout Italy's, Slovenia's and Croatia's border territories. Finally, the third part will focus on dissemination of results and maybe training of local staff on the newly adapted techniques.
Partners already involved:None.
Partners searched:Academic, public and private research institutions in the field of biomonitoring/'traditional' monitoring of environmental pollution, to research the adaptation of biomonitoring techniques to new environments.
