| Acronym: | ARCHAEOLAND |
| Title: | LANDSCAPE DESIGN AND ENVIRONMENTAL FRIENDLY MANAGEMENT OF ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITES |
| Priority: | 2. Natural and Cultural Resources and Risk Prevention |
| Measure: | 2.2 - Natural and cultural heritage management and prevention of natural and technological risks |
| Description: | The majority of the archaeological areas of the Region of Epirus and the Region of Puglia have the same historical roots but also the same disadvantages and problems. These areas have not been modernized. The new tools have not been used in order to create the means that will help the visitor “to travel” in the past.
Their basic disadvantage is that they offer mono dimensional information. They do not connect the cultural with the natural heritage and for that, an important opportunity for the visitors to become sensitive on several critical issues that concern not only the culture but also the human and natural environment, is lost.
There are also basic lacks in the architectural planning of the landscape as well as in the management of plant material. The control of undesirable vegetation, the thriftless irrigation and the treatment of plant material, that many times is inadequate and incompatible with the place, is the major problems for which a solution is sought. |
