| Description: | The Gargano National Park Authority is going to prepare a project named “Ecological Networks in the Adriatic Sea for the kentish plover and the monk seal”, for the creation of a network of protected areas of interest for the two species: a bird ( the kentish plover, Charandrius alexandrinus) and a mammal (monk seal, Monachus monachus). These species live in two tipical habitats of the Adriatic Sea: the caves of rocky coasts and sand littoral. The project could represent an important step for the conservation of biodiversity in Europe and the prevention and protection of marine and coastal environment.
The project aims to achieve it through a set of concerted actions which will include plans for sustainable development and efforts to raise the awareness of the local communities. The creation of a effective ecological net, between protected areas, will be the first step for the conservation of biodiversity.
